The land belonged to Mary Evans, the late literary agent and founder of Mary Evans Inc. Mary spent her life discovering writers and ideas that changed the way people saw the world. She brought that same curiosity and imagination to this place.

She wanted the land to remain a sanctuary—a place that could stay wild, alive, and useful to other people.

Mary came up with the name Bridge Hotel Farm from a simple idea:

“Life is a bridge. The bridge is a span between what we can’t remember before birth and what we don’t know—what, if anything, happens to our consciousness, our soul, our essence, after we die. All of us—from a fern to a trillionaire to me—we’re all on the Bridge Hotel of Life. Hotel: it’s not our permanent home, but our home for right now. We’re all on the Bridge Hotel. If you realise how finite Life is, you protect it. We celebrate Life here.”

That idea is at the heart of this place.

A sanctuary is simply a place set apart to protect and honor something. Here, that something is life itself.
The farm makes this idea tangible. Seeds are planted, things grow, things die back, and then they return. The orchard changes with the seasons. The woodland has its own rhythms. The pond and meadow are always changing. Nothing stays exactly the same.Mary understood that we are all passing through. The name Bridge Hotel Farm is a reminder of that: this is our home for now.We hope the farm can be a place to notice that—to spend time with the land, with other people, and with the simple fact of being alive.

Celebrating Life..
